waxing poetic... sounds painful

I'm not much of a poet. I do, however, appreciate a poem that makes me feel a certain way. My minor is in English, which means I have had to take some extra literature classes. Sometimes it is a drag. But the other day in American Lit I was completely zoned out and the professor began reading this poem by Carl Sandburg. I snapped back in time to hear him slowly read the words. It made me feel... still. Warm. And completely ok and at peace with everything around me. My head was quiet for a few minutes as I read it over again to myself. I could hear the rain and feel the sun. I love the ending... where he draws on all of the expressed feelings and says that he knows someone who makes him feel all of that. Enough poetic-ness for one day.

"Monotone" By Carl Sandburg

The monotone of the rain is beautiful,
And the sudden rise and slow relapse
Of the long multitudinous rain.

The sun on the hills is beautiful,
Or a captured sunset sea-flung,
Bannered with fire and gold.

A face I know is beautiful--
With fire and gold of sky and sea,
And the peace of long warm rain.
